Wear & Tear Repair Programme

Fair wear and tear occurs when normal usage causes deterioration to a vehicle. It is not the same as damage caused by impact or ignoring a vehicle's warning signs and never having these rectified.

To avoid unnecessary end of contract charges, Bentleys will appraise your vehicle prior to the end of your lease or finance agreement (3 months prior to end of contract is recommended to allow time for any damage to be repaired).

Any work required will be done at discounted rates and a BVRLA Inspection Report provided.^


We will inspect your vehicle for:

1. General appearance, documentation and keys

All original documentation and equipment should be present. A complete set of keys including spare keys to be returned.

2. Paintwork, Body, Bumpers and Trim

There should be no rust or corrosion on any painted areas. Relative to the vehicle's age and mileage, the following is acceptable:

Scratches up to 25mm

Small areas of chipping

Dents up to 10mm (provided no more than two per panel and the paint surface is not broken)

3. Windows & Glass

Light scratching is acceptable as long as it does not interfere with the driver's line of sight.

Chips, holes and cracks are not acceptable.

Lights must be in working order.

Missing, cracked or damaged door mirrors are not acceptable.

4. Tyres & Wheels

Tyres must meet minimum UK legal requirements and comply with manufacturers recommendations of type, size and speed rating.

Scuffs totalling up to 50mm on the total circumference of the wheel trim or on alloy wheels are acceptable.

There must be no damage to sidewalls or tread.

5. Mechanical Condition

The vehicle must meet current MOT standards.

If the vehicle has not been serviced and/or warnings for the vehicle management systems ignored - these would not be acceptable.

6. Vehicle Interior

Upholstery must be clean and odourless with no visible burns, tears or staining.

Holes and other damage left by the removal of accessories must be repaired.

Seat belts, rear view mirrors, courtesy lights, sun visors, door bins etc must be present and intact.

We will adhere to the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear guidelines to assist you in reducing or preventing end of contract charges. However, there are occasions when the inspector from the leasing company will find faults that they consider fall outside of the Guidelines and you would have the right to dispute their findings. The BVRLA is approved by Government as a Consumer ADR body under the Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes (Competent Authorities and Information) Regulations 2015. The association operates a conciliation service for its members and their customers to help resolve disputes. The Conciliation Service will investigate potential breaches of the Codes of Conduct, and aims to resolve complaints within 30 days using the information presented by both parties to the dispute.
