Adored by automotive media and pure driving enthusiasts alike, the Toyota GR Yaris has become an official sell-out success. UK order books are now full for this year and next, prompting the opening of a new waiting list for those eager to own this universally praised performance car.
It was the passion of Toyota President Akio Toyoda himself that ensured the GR Yaris was put into production, a model that perhaps more than any other exemplifies his promise of “no more boring cars.” Designed and engineered with direct input from the Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team and their championship drivers, it’s a genuine thoroughbred but affordable price tag.
Built on a bespoke platform, powered by an all-new 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine and using a new GR-Four permanent all-wheel-drive system, it brings rally-style handling and performance to a road-going supermini. Its quality is reflected in an ever-growing array of awards that attest to its giant-slaying character, regularly outperforming more powerful, exotic, and costlier rivals.
Stuart Sanders, Toyota GB Director of Communications and Product, said: “The success of GR Yaris has been unprecedented. The huge public demand has resulted in all the new cars destined for the UK having now been snapped up for the coming 18 months. However, this isn’t the end of the story as we are opening a new waiting list from next week so that prospective customers can put their names forward to be first in line when the next allocation of vehicles is confirmed.
“This model’s incredible success is testament to our vision of using motorsport to build ever-better cars. Toyota Gazoo Racing has become a key element of our brand, bringing performance, excitement, and fun into the range with GR Supra, GR Yaris, and, soon, GR86, and showing how we can take world-championship-winning success on the track and the rally stage and use it to make brilliant sports cars our customers love.”
Prospective GR Yaris owners will be able to add their names to the waiting list from 12 July. The closing of current orders does not affect the status of any customers who have already placed an order and are awaiting delivery of their car.
